This archival, hand-sewn journal/sketchbook is made from 100 gsm, white Hahnemühle Ingres mouldmade paper from Dassel, Germany, made on the same site since 1584. It is sewn with Irish linen thread in the linked stitch pattern that was developed by the ancient Copts. This stitch allows the book to lie open easily at any page.
The book’s endbands and bookmark are goatskin. Its boards are wrapped in a 1941 National Geographic Magazine map of the world upon which a stateside spectator marked major targets during the year the United States entered the Second World War, the book is half-leathered in Alran French goatskin that was processed at Rocky Mountain Leather Supply in Sandy, Utah.
The talisman in this book is a 1945, “Vichy,” 5 Franc coin that was cast in aluminum due to wartime metals shortages.
