$75.00
Sold Out

This archival, hand-sewn journal is made from 80 gsm Mohawk Superfine paper stitched with Irish linen thread in the linked pattern that was developed by the ancient Copts and discovered in Nag Hamadi, Egypt in 1945. This stitch allows the book to lay open easily at any page.

The book’s endbands are brown and gold silk, and its bookmark is orange and white grosgrain ribbon. Its spine is covered in water-marked silk book cloth, and its boards are wrapped in an art nouveau printed paper from Paper Tree in London, England.

Treasure binding began with monks in the 6th Century who would encrust volumes with jewels. During the Renaissance, there was a resurgence in treasure binding. This is a contemporary revival of the treasure binding in which a lucky charm has been embedded in the cover of this book.

The talisman in this journal is an American one dollar coin, featuring the Statue of Liberty with her torch aloft. It complements the stylized torches of the art nouveau paper. Lift your light so someone else who needs it can find their way.

This book is roughly 6 x 9 inches with a few more than 150 blank pages inside.
